- RUISROCK 2008: HIM, Nightwish, Apocalyptica, Life Of Agony, Ministry, Opeth, Bullet For My Valentine, Hanoi Rocks, The 69 Eyes, The Ark and The Cult are among the confirmed bands for the Ruisrock 2008 festival, set to take place July 4-6 in Ruissalo, Turku, Finland. Three-day tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, March 5 for the price of 100€. Tickets are available at www.ruisrock.fi and box offices of Tiketti and Lippupalvelu. Besides regular printed tickets Tiketti has also electronic PDF and SMS tickets available. One-day tickets will go on sale later this spring.

- TEACHER PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE FOR PLAYING HIM DURING CLASS: FoxCarolina.com reports that parents of some students at Excelsior Middle School said a teacher there has been playing songs about suicide and death — including HIM's "Join Me In Death" — to their children during class. The school district said sixth-grade science teacher Karen Hipp has been placed on administrative leave while they investigate the parents' claims. "These are sixth-graders listening to songs about committing suicide or killing others,' said one of the parents who did not want to be identified.”I found it very inappropriate." This parent said he first heard the music after his children brought home a CD which they say has a sampling of the songs Hipp plays in class on it. His children also told him that Hipp has downloaded several of the songs for the students to take home and listen to. One of the songs, called "Join Me In Death", is by a rock band called HIM. It has lyrics like, "We are so young. Our lives have just begun. Baby, join me in death." Another parent said although she was upset to hear the music, she said she is relieved that the superintendent took swift action. "When they're exposed to something like this, (the children) have mixed feelings about what's wrong and what's right," said another parent. School officials said they are investigating the accusations against Hipp, but they said it is too early to talk about the case.

- BLEED WELL PREVIEW: Finnish "love metallers" HIM are debuting the video for their new single, "Bleed Well", for the HIM fanclub on Heartagram.com today. Imeem will feature the official "world premiere" of the video on Tuesday, November 27. The band filmed the live footage for the new clip at their Los Angeles shows on November 14 and November 15 at the Orpheum Theatre. The footage from the shows will also be used for HIM's upcoming live DVD, to be released in 2008.

- GOLD SELLING ALBUM: HIM's new album, "Venus Doom", is the follow-up to 2005's "Dark Light", which was certified gold in America for sales in excess of 500,000 copies. In a recent interview with the Artisan News Service, HIM frontman Ville Valo spoke about what it was like to be the first band from Finland to have a gold-selling album in the U.S. "It made our parents really proud," he said. "It was all over the press in Finland. Nowadays achieving gold status anywhere in the world is pretty tough with illegal downloads and stuff like that. So, I feel happy, and… I don't know… kind of numb." Ville also talked about how much the band is embracing touring the world and winning fans over. "It's like being on mushrooms all the time," he explained. "You never know what's behind the next corner and you never know what's happening. Sometimes it's fun and sometimes it's terrible but that's what makes it exciting. It's like living in a Salvador Dali painting. Very few people have the possibility of doing that, so I'm embracing the opportunity to do that with all my power."

- JAMES BOND THEME SONG?: According to the Daily Star, James Bond producers have tapped HIM frontman Ville Valo to record the theme for 2008's "Casino Royale" follow-up flick. Ville, 30, was approached by the Bond team at the BMI Awards dinner at London’s Dorchester Hotel, where he scooped a gong for his hit "Wings Of A Butterfly". A Daily Star source stated: "[Longtime 007 soundtrack writers David Arnold, 45, and Don Black, 69] were in deep conversation with Ville on the night." They love the song that won him an award. They think he has just the right ear to write a classic Bond hit with them." After their discussion, Ville even pulled a few suave 007 poses at his dinner table, aiming an imaginary finger gun at pals.

- "VENUS DOOM" COVER: The cover art for "Venus Doom" was painted by artist David Harouni. Singer Ville Valo purchased one of Harouni's paintings at New Orleans' Harouni Gallery (where the artist represents himself) and later asked Harouni if it could be used as the cover for "Venus Doom." Harouni (whose work can be viewed at http://www.harouni.com) agreed and now counts himself as a HIM fan. Also we now have recent photographs taken by renowned photographer Perou, who has also shot Marilyn Manson, Sigur Ros, and David Beckham. You can see the cover by here.

- HIM TO FILM THE NEW VIDEO THIS MONTH: HIM will film a new video on Thursday, June 21st and/or Saturday, June 23rd in the Los Angeles area. Directing the clip will be Meiert Avis, who has previously worked with U2, AVRIL LAVIGNE, JENNIFER LOPEZ and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, in addition to helming HIM's "Wings Of A Butterfly" video. The production team put out a casting call for the clip this week and will hold auditions on Tuesday (June 19th), looking for "a beautiful girl (model type) to perform in the lead role of the video."
- VENUS DOOM MORE INFO & TRACKLISTING (THE ROCKIT): HIM recently finished mixing its sixth studio album, "Venus Doom", at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Once again, the band entered the studio with producer/mixer Tim Palmer. At a recent listening session, it became apparent to one Rockit staffer that "Venus Doom" is quite a departure from the band's last effort, "Dark Light". The moody pop of the previous album has given way to more expansive tracks led by thunderous guitar crunches. Standout numbers include the prog-tinged "Kiss Of Dawn" and "Sleepwalking Past Hope," a near-epic piece with a spine-tingling bridge. The album is expected to hit streets this September. In the meantime, HIM will join Taking Back Sunday, Placebo, Styles of Beyond and more on the Projekt Revolution tour. The follow-up to 2005's "Dark Light" will be called "Venus Doom" and, according to the band's frontman Ville Valo it's «going to be a lot heavier than anything we've done before.» «We wanted to make a really rockin' album, one that would explode your speakers,» he told MTV News. «But we also wanted to maintain the melancholy aspects of love and loss in the lyrics and then have the really sweet vocals amidst this storm of guitars. It's like we're mixing My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' with Metallica's 'Master of Puppets'. There won't be as much ear candy on this one. - ALBUM DELAYED (H-I-M666 Club): New HIM album have been postponed to September. The release was previously scheleuded to the middle of July. «The band's sixth studio album was recorded at Finnvox Studios in the spring under the direction of Tim Palmer. The album will be mixed in California in May, followed by a video shoot. The new album will be released world-wide in September 2007».

KICK OFF "GIVE IT A NAME" (NME.com): HIM
kicked off the first night of "Give It A Name 07" in fine style
last night (April 27th). The Finnish quintet performed a host
of tracks from their back catalogue and threw in a cover of Napalm
Death's "You Suffer" during the hardcore all-dayer at Earls Court.

- ABOUT THE NEW ALBUM: HIM frontman Ville Valo recently spoke to Chris Harris of MTV.com about the group's new album, tentatively titled "Venus Doom", which they've been working on with producer Tim Palmer (DREDG, OZZY OSBOURNE) in Helsinki. "There were too many things going on," Valo said of the band's previous release, 2005's gold-certfified "Dark Light". "['Venus Doom' is] going to be a lot heavier than anything we've done before - that's the whole idea. It's like we're mixing MY BLOODY VALENTINE's 'Loveless' with METALLICA's 'Master of Puppets'. ... There won't be as much ear candy on this one. There are a lot of riffs, and it's more guitar-oriented than keyboard-driven. Really, we just wanted to rock our own socks off. "We wanted to make a really rockin' album - one that would explode your speakers," he added. "But we also wanted to maintain the melancholy aspects of love and loss in the lyrics and then have the really sweet vocals amidst this storm of guitars. "Lyrically, it's about me losing a relationship and then actually regaining it, and losing my sanity and regaining it," Valo continued. "As you grow up, life gets more and more complex, even though when you're a kid you think things are going to get easier. It's like a f---ing puzzle that just keeps on having more and more pieces to it. It's very personal, this album. It's like me getting rid of my demons and putting the pain in the music. It's cathartic, and it's about cleansing yourself and trying to have the courage to take that one step further."
