Finland is the more northern European state after Iceland. It overlooks the Baltic and it borders Norway (north), Sweden (north-west) and Russia (east). In the east border, there aren’t natural protective frontier and in 1944 this fact facilitated the annexation of a large Finish territori from URSS.
Finland is a unitari presidential republic, it it extendes for 338.145 Km2 (this given includes 33.522 Km2 of internal water) and it’s divided in 12 districts.
Helsinki is the capital of this state.
Official languages are Finish and Swedish, spoken from 93,6% and 6% of population (this lingiustic minorità is located on the weast coast between Kokkola and Vaasa, on the coast between Turku and Helsinki and also in the Ahrenahmaa Archipelag); less used are Russian and Lappish.
The most followest religiong is the Protestant of the national Lutheran church.
Winter is long and cold (the Lappish winter usually lasts from October to May).
May rappresented spring and Finland has summer in June July and August.
Typical are the very light nights: in the utmost North, for over 2 months, the sun is upon the horizon.
Fall is humid and foggy and snow covers Finland from 5 to 7 months a year.
Beyond Helsinki, the most important city (concernine an historical point of view) is Turku, capital until 1812. Than there are Vaasa and Oulu.
Inside the state we can find Tampere, Lathi and Kuopio.
Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland.
 
 

Known as "the doughter of the Baltic", Helsinki is the major city in Finland, chief town of the province ‘Uudenmaan; it is situated ion the south part of the country on a little peninsula on the northen coast of the Finish gulf and it’s enclosed by some little islands. It’s a big cultural centre, here there is the university, moved from Turku in the 1828 but founded in 1640.
Helsinki has a modern structure and the frame of chessboard. Inside of it there are the most useful streets and along of them were built the most important buildings designed by Engel. The most common construction material is the white granite, so people call the town “white northen city”. Streets are large with many trees and the 30% of the urban area is occupied by parks and woods.

You Should visit:

Senaatintori (Senate’s square) - it’s a big square with a rectangular form designed by Engel. At the centre there is a monument in the memory of the zar Alexander II.
Asema-aukio - one of the biggest square where is located the railway station: Rautaticasema. It has a tower 48 meters heigher ( builted by Saarinen). In the south of Asema Aukio we can find:
Ateneum - an art gallery
Amos Andersonin Taidemuseo - inside there are painting, sculture created by Finnish artists in the XX century. It is possibile to see Italian works and art objects which come from Sweden and Russia (1700).
Eduskuntatalo - it’s the parliament’s building, enclosed by Finish president’s statues. It has been built in red granite and has a majestic and solemn form.
Kansallimuseo-Nationalmuseet - is the most important museum concernine history and folklore. It is inside a big building that has an high tower.
Finlandia-talo - residence for concerts and congresses.
Helsingin kaupungin taidemuseo - modern art gallery.
Temppeliaukio Kirkko - lutheran church hollowed in the rock and overlaped by a dome in copper.
Ulkomuseo - a museum in the open-air, placet in Seurasaari island, linked with the mainland thanks to a bridge.
